Album Info:

Hurricane Flossie is knocking at Hawaii's front door... Today there was an earthquake on the Big Island which almost always brings the threat of tsunami to the other islands... Part of Oahu is being engulfed in flames with a major, unquenchable fire on the north shore... On the local news tonight one tourist from Texas claimed that he was experiencing a "Four Horsemen of the Appocalypse" vacation. Trying not to reason with hurricane season, I went out to shoot the sunset, in the gusty winds, at one of my favorite locations, Tracks Surfbreak. That is smoke, not clouds, suffocating the horizon. There is definitely trouble in Paradise. I did finally manage to find some beauty, though, in all of the chaos.

    • very cool shot. Living on the Pacific coast of Oaxaca, southern Mexico, I too live with hurricanes and earthquakes, though we are lucky that most times they form near us in the Bay of Tehuantepec, but then head away out to sea or up to Acapulco and Baja. We are on the edge of 3 tectonic plates, but our quakes are small, and our rocky base protects us from damage, unlike Mexico city. I've no idea why, but we seem to get most tremors during the rainy season, do you? or do you have rain all year round?

    • While it is a gorgeous image, it is so disheartening to see the smoke. Have they been able to put out the cane fires yet? I haven't followed the news on the earthquake and afterquakes so thought I would stop in and say hello, cool my eyes with your beautiful ocean shots and island sunsets to say hello! I hope you and your family are well and happy as well as your friends and all those on the islands! It is a beautiful image, I do love the palm silhouettes and will linger here... 'Ae, there is always beauty, all around! Aloha Clark! Sharon

    • Oh Clark, this is a beautiful shot and as always there is always beauty in the midst of chaos. I surely hope and pray that Hawaii makes it through these acts of nature fairly unscathed. Thanks for sharing ....Marion
