Album Info:

Hidden in the dense foliage of the valley, the hanging coffins are "hanged" from the limestone cliff using slabs driven into the rocks. The people of Sagada prefer to bury the deceased in caves rather than in grounds. It is said that an adult who is able to see his/her child married off is worthy to be interred in a hanging coffin when he/she dies. For those who die not reaching this stage in their life are buried in jars or wooden coffins and kept inside burial caves. The Kankanaey Igorots have practiced this ritual for the past 2,000 years or more.
