An interesting feature of this church is the Roman- period floor found next to its western wall. Typical of floors of that era, it is made of very large, striated stones that kept people from slipping as they walked.

Your caption reminds me of the floor we saw (and I wish I could remember exactly where it is), where a game board is scribed into the stone floor. It was told that the Roman soldiers used it for playing a game such as checkers.
