(DSC02103) "Matang-baka" (cow-eyed or big-eyed) scad fish: Matang-baka is what Filipinos call the fish that has the scientific name Selar crumenophthalmus. The name means "cow eye" and refers to its big eyes. Less common Tagalog names for this fish are "bunutan" and "mataan dagat". The Bikolanos call it "atuloy". The Visayans call it "bigsawan", "bulao", "guma-a", "gutlob", "haguma-a", "marot" and "mat-an". The Japanese call this fish "me-aji", while the Malaysians use various names such as "mata besar", "pelata bulat", "selar pucat" and "temenong".
