Album Info:

This album contains photographs of a hike I took with my Bride of two weeks as part of our Honeymoon. We both are 65 years old and in reasonably good physical shape. I say this because anyone attempting this hike should be sure before they leave, that they can complete the hike, and that they are properly dressed and carry the provisions that are needed to keep them safe. I have made this hike a number of times and don't feel any less able to make it than I did 25 years ago. I have altered my route at times to take in some wonderful landscapes not available on the most used and quickest trip. On this trip I chose for us to leave the normal, more direct trail, skirting the eastern side of the main rock formations so we could come into the main viewing area from the Southeast side even though it added another mile or so to the trip. The day was perfect, about 70 degrees with just a small breeze blowing and keeping us cool. I carried enough powerade mixed with water to give each of us a minimum of three litres of liquid, and 4 milk chocolate bars hidden beneath them, along with my tripod in my backpack. We left the parking area at 2 PM. to give us time to wander a bit and still get to the arch by "Golden Hour" when the low angle of the sun results in strong natural colours and good shadows. It is also important to give enough time when done taking photos to make it back to the trailhead before dark. It takes about half the time to get back as it takes to get there. If anyone in your group is not comfortable with heights I would still suggest they give it a try. There ARE a couple of steep areas and the last two hundred yards are along an elevated trail carved out of the side of the rock wall on the north side of the Arch. This trail however is plenty wide enough for almost anyone if they stay close to the rock face side. All in all we had a fabulous day and shall return again, looking for more directions to get to Delicate Arch. As a footnote; if you look at many of the newer Utah vehicle plates there is a relief of Delicate Arch on them..
