Attributed to the Khalif Omar who conquered Jerusalem in 638, though built in 691. However, the Khalif Omar was the one who ordered the rehabilitatoin of the the Temple Mount, known to Muslims as Haram-esh-Sharif, after the Byzantines have covered it with garbage. In the early Muslim period of Jerusalem, Jews were allowed to pray on the Temple Mount. Today, however, the place is so sensitive, that the Israeli Police allows only Muslims to pray there, so as to not anger the Muslims.
