Island in focus: Plane hits cows at Komodo airport The Jakarta Post | Fri, 09/16/2011 9:43 PM A | A | A | Kupang: An Avia Star airplane hit a group of cows upon landing at Komodo airport in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Wednesday, slightly damaging the front part of the plane. The incident took place when the plane, which was carrying 30 passengers from Kupang, intended to make a stopover before continuing its journey to Denpasar, Bali. John Tote, an officer at the Komodo airport tower, said on Thursday that a group of cows belonging to local residents have frequently been detected on airport property. “We’ve frequently reminded the residents not to graze their cattle in airport areas. Before the plane landed, our officers had driven the cows away using motorcycles, but suddenly three of the cows crossed the runway and were hit by the plane,” John said.
