Album Info:
This was my favorite part of my time in Nikko. I ran from the Ryokan in the lower right of the map and tried to follow a trail next to the river up into the mountains. It proved to be sort of hard to locate, so I did a fair bit of climbing up steep loose-soiled hillsides. I eventually found a gravel road which I believe appears as the dotted line in the upper-left hand corner. I followed that across the river where I found some definite trail markers. One trail said 0.8km, so I decided I'd go up that to whatever was at the end and turn around, but after about 8 minutes of running up a treacherous mountainside trail I decided the trail was more than 0.8km long. I came back a lot faster than I went out (because it was all downhill) and arrived dirty, a little bloody from being cut by bushes, and happy, just in time for a cramped shower, a change into the ryokan provided gown, and a trip in small vinyl slippers to the ground floor for dinner.
