Album Info:

Xian features many amazing tourist sites including temples, mausoleums, tombs, palaces and towers. The Drum Tower, Xian is one such popular tourist spot. It was constructed in 1380 during the rule of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty. Later on it was refurbished twice in the Qing Dynasty. The tower reaches to a height of about 34 meters. The length is about 52.6 meters and the width is 38 meters. Stone is used to build the base, and wood is used to build the upper levels. The Drum Tower, Xian reflects a unique combination of the art of Tang and Qing dynasties. As soon as you reach the Tower, you will get to see an arch-shaped entrance in the center of the north and south walls. The northern entrance will take you to Beiyuan Men and southern to Xi Dajie. You can climb up the stairs to reach the second floor and enjoy splendid views around the site. The Drum Tower, Xian was built up in order to indicate the time. The massive drum once showed the time at twilight. However, as time passed on, this drum emerged as the warning device whenever there is any foreign invasion or any kind of upcoming crisis or emergency. The twenty-four drums in the north and south parts refer to the Twenty-four Solar Terms. In the ancient times, they actually indicated the weather conditions. At present, you can also see the biggest drum in China in the Drum Tower, Xian . This particular drum has been positioned here very recently. It is covered by cow skin. The Tower now hosts many interesting musical shows. You can witness such performances in order to learn about the ancient Chinese art, culture and civilization.
