Album Info:
"Hofwyl-Broadfield lies south of the Altamaha River along a narrow band of land ideal for the cultivation of rice. Flood gates or trunks were constructed to allow the incoming tide to flood the fields and were closed firmly at ebb tide to contain the water in the fields. Nearby plantations included Hopeton, Elizafield, Grantley, Evely and New Hope, and local planters were Pierce Butler, James Hamilton Couper** and Hugh Fraser Grant."
