Album Info:
While inside the store look around. On the wall behind the sales counter is a poster size image of Elvis, Dewey Phillips and Joe Cuoghi in the same store. Dewey loved to hang out here and often used the record shop to promote his radio or television shows. Joe was a co-founder of Poplar Tunes. Around 1959 he invested in a new record company, Hi Records. One of his partners was the late Bill Black. Hi Records would have great success through the early 1980's. See the ads for the Tennessee lottery? I bought my only winning lottery ticket in here. One of the Poplar Tunes legends is that the owners would let Elvis, at the very start of his career, cash his Crown Electric paychecks here. Speaking of Crown Electric, that is the subject of my next photograph.
