Steerenberg and Liebenstein (The "Enemy Brothers") Above the pilgrim-town of Bornhofen stands the ruins of two castles, popularly known as the "Enemy Brothers". Their names are Liebenstein and Steerenberg. The latter is older, and , as early as the 12th century was in the hands of the Bolanden family, later the Counts of Sponheim. The fourcornered tower and ruins of the wall that protected it from a cliff assault and attacks from the neighbouring castle remain.
