The Knights set their headquaters , archivee , and treasury at the new property in 1229. BY that time the property ceased from being a farmland and was considered a fortress with all its implications. The Teutonic Knights expanded the fortifications ans build a keep in the center , the keep are the main remnants of the ruined fortress.
